Small Groups
What are Small Groups?
A Small Group is simply a small number of people who get together regularly for the purpose of growing in their relationship with Christ and each other. In Acts we see the early church taking on this powerful practice of meeting together “from house to house” for teaching and fellowship. The basic elements of a Small Group are worship, Bible study, prayer, fellowship, ministry, and outreach.
At Christ Lutheran Church, we have divided Small Groups into three categories: Care Groups, Bible Studies, and Support Groups.
Why Small Groups?
Our Small Group Ministry provides an opportunity for people to get to know each other in a nurturing environment, typically a home. Over time close personal relationships form within these groups, resulting in true fellowship and ministering to one another. Members of Small Groups often participate together in ministry projects and are encouraged to invite neighbors and friends to their group gatherings.
Care Groups
The majority of Small Groups at Christ Lutheran Church are Care Groups. Eight to twelve people meet in a member’s home for a couple of hours a week to worship God, study the Bible, pray and have fellowship. Each Care Group has a leader who, with the help of the members, chooses the Bible study curriculum for the group. It may be a book of the Bible, or a particular topic of interest. Although most groups meet weekly, some meet twice a month. Care Groups may also participate in service projects (ministry), and invite others to their group (missions).
Bible Studies
As the name implies, these Small Groups are primarily focused on Bible study, where men and women gather to learn more about God’s plan for their lives from God’s word. Fellowship and prayer are also common ingredients that make up Bible study groups.
